How To Create Mockups In Canva For Beauty Products (Step-by-step guide)

A simple, beginner-friendly guide to creating professional beauty product mockups.

Mockups are a game-changer for beauty brands, making it easy to preview how your logo will look on different types of packaging and populate your online shop with product images without creating or photographing each item individually. They’re especially helpful for dropshipping models where you don’t hold inventory. Simply create a mockup in Canva, add the images to your product pages, and start selling.

A mockup is essentially an image of a blank product, like a skincare jar, bottle, or box, onto which you overlay your logo or design. It’s a faster, more cost-effective way to showcase your products and branding without producing each one.

This guide will show you how to create mockups in Canva for your beauty products.

Step-by-step guide on how to create mockups in Canva

Creating website-worthy product mockups doesn’t require a design background or expensive software. With Canva, beauty brands can quickly turn simple product visuals into professional-looking product images that are ready for websites, social media, and catalogues. Follow the steps below to bring your branding to life.

Step 1

Sign up with Canva. Depending on your needs, there are a few different plans available, each with its own pricing and features:

  • Free

  • Canva Pro (for individuals)

  • Canva Business (for individuals and teams)

The Pro and Business plans unlock features such as background removal, AI tools, and brand kits, so we highly recommend these options if you plan to create more than one mockup.

If you’ve opted for a Pro or Business account, start by building your brand kit. Click the Brand button on the left-hand side of the screen, where you can upload your brand's colours, logos, fonts, graphics, icons, and more. This makes it incredibly easy to access the right assets when you need them.

Step 2

Once your account is set up, click the Home button on the left-hand side of the screen. Start by uploading all your high-resolution lifestyle images of the products you’ll be creating mockups with. Many dropshipping companies, like Blanka, even offer branded lifestyle images for their private-label-ready SKUs, making this step even easier.

Step 3

Use the same method to upload any logos, graphics, or icons you want to include in your mockup. If you have a Pro or Business account, you can use Canva’s background remover tool to easily remove backgrounds from your logos. If you’re using the free account, there are other tools available for background removal. Check out our full article on logo background removal here.

Step 4

Now you’re ready to create your first mockup in Canva. Click the Create button on the left-hand side of the screen. If your website’s product pages require a 4:5 aspect ratio, such as 1200 × 1500 pixels, select Custom Size in Canva and enter the dimensions. Don’t forget to set the units to px (pixels).

Step 5

Once your template is created, you’ll see a white square on your screen—this is where you’ll build your mockup. Click the Uploads button on the left-hand side and drag your first lifestyle image into the frame. Resize it so it fills the entire space.

With your lifestyle image in place, drag and drop your logo onto the product, positioning it wherever it looks best.

Step 6

If you want to add other images or icons you’ve uploaded, simply repeat Step 5: drag the new elements onto the product and adjust their size and position as needed.

To add text, click the Text button on the left-hand side. You can choose from Canva’s fonts or use your brand font if you’ve set up a brand kit. Drag the text box onto the product, enter your copy, and move or resize it until it looks just right.

Step 7

When you’re happy with your mockup, click the Share button in the top right-hand corner, then select Download. You’ll see a few file type options. Choose the one that best fits how you plan to use the mockup. For a website, we recommend JPEG. Keep the file size as is (it’s been optimized for a reason), then click Download. Voilà! Your first mockup is ready to add to your site.
